Adele’s SOLD OUT Live 2016 Tour Blows Toronto Away!

It’s not a surprise who Adele is or why everyone loves her. Adele has been a sensation since her debt album, 19 was released back in 2008. Or perhaps you haven’t heard of Adele until her second studio album, 21 was released in early 2011 and at the moment, she stole all the awards. Either way, Adele has been a successful singer-songwriter and taken the pop world by storm.

When Adele announced she was going on tour last year (2015), my heart jumped out as I’ve been waiting to see and hear the queen live since 2011! Adele has been one of the extremely talented artists with an incredible vocal ability to become my favourite (right under Lady Gaga). She announced four shows in Toronto (October 3, 4, 6, and 7th) which gave me hope to acquire tickets to even one of those shows as these were the hottest tickets of the year. Adele sold out all four Toronto show and believe me when I say it was near impossible to acquire tickets. I had tried several methods and attempts to acquire pre-sale tickets from Adele’s official website which failed and during my last chance at the general public sale, I managed to acquire one ticket to her October 7th show after an hour of refreshing! I had given up all hope since the website had been giving errors and ‘no ticket availability’ for an hour and I assumed it was already sold out. My seat wasn’t the best as it was row 36 seat 47 (aisle), but at least I was going to hear her live and be in the same arena as Adele! Christmas present gone right.

Fast forward to almost a year later, the day was finally here. I had prayed I wouldn’t get sick, but unfortunately I was just catching something… I wasn’t feeling the best on the day of and had a long day after work as well. In preparation for the show, I ran over to the ACC after work and was the first in line to enter when doors opened at 6:30pm sharp. I had wanted to be first so I could be the first to run over to the merchandise stands and acquire one of her limited edition lithographs. The lithographs are limited to 150 per show and 5 of them are randomly signed by Adele herself. To my surprise I was astonished to find out there were still lithographs from the first few Toronto shows (oct 3, 4, 6) as they had all four colours. The lithograph for my show (Oct 7th) was blue, and there was also red, pink and purple on display. As they were very rare and limited, I purchased a purple one as well as the blue one and also grabbed my hands on a long sleeve concert tee which totaled to A LOT of moolah. I didn’t realize how expensive the lithographs were as I forgot the price I saw online was USD… but heck, they were beautiful and limited. Who knows when I’ll see Adele again in concert, especially if she goes on her 10 year long tour hiatus.

Running on excitement from grabbing all the merch I wanted, I stopped by the small stand selling tour programmes as they were stunning. I really wanted to purchase one but couldn’t justify as I had just spent a ton of money at another merch stand. I was so close to picking one up since it was $40 and as the lithographs, 5 of them are randomly signed. This was a bigger risk since there are way more tour programmes for sale than the lithographs. The tour programme was matte and on high quality paper, so it had a nice thick texture feeling.

2016-10-07-19-29-26

I ran back to my office to put away the two lithographs, they were 18″ x 24″ and I definitely did not want to carry them for the rest of the night. They were fragile and costed too much to be damaged in any way. I also ate a pre-show dinner at IQ food Co. (one of my favourites) before heading back into the arena to find my seat. Getting back into the arena took a while since there were more people going in now and I had to line up for a while. Went through a security check once again and ran down to the floor level to find my seat.

2016-10-07-19-44-51

MY seat was literally the last of row 36 as I was on the far right aisle. I’ve never had an aisle seat before but it was convenient if I had to walk in/out. The view wasn’t as bad, but I wasn’t too hopeful on seeing her up close because it was quite far back. There were 44 rows in total I believe. The wait for the show wasn’t long as she started at 8:10pm (10 minutes after 8:00pm as stated) and there were no opening acts. I was glad as she doesn’t need any opening acts and those acts were random in my opinion. There also wasn’t a crazy stage set-up filled with props as other performers, it was kept simple and elegant as Adele herself.

When the lights dimmed out and the show started, everyone was raging on their feet and excited to see the queen come out. She rose from the second stage (in the middle of the floor area) singing Hello which had sent chills! Her voice was mesmerizing, it was simply magical. I have no words, I was blown away with how perfect her voice was. Her setlist for the rest of the show was as follows:

  1. Hello
  2. Hometown Glory
  3. One and Only
  4. Rumour has it
  5. Water Under the Bridge
  6. Skyfall
  7. Million Years Ago
  8. Don’t You Remember
  9. Make you Feel My Love
  10. Send my Love (To your new Lover)
  11. Sweetest Devotion
  12. Chasing Pavements
  13. Someone Like You

When she sang Hometown Glory, it brought chills. Her visual display on the big screen was beautiful and went perfectly with Adele’s soulful voice. She breezed through the songs, or I was just having too much fun. I was living for her voice, it was absolute slayage. While dancing and singing my heart out with her, I couldn’t stop laughing and smiling at how adorable she was. Adele made the show interactive and loved to chat with the audience. She would share personal experiences from the past in an honest and relatable way. Adele loved to laugh and everytime she did, it would be contagious for us all. She’d laugh, we’d laugh.

I wasn’t expecting to laugh as much as I did, but Adele certainly had a way to make everything she say funny. Her conversations were down to earth, hilarious and real. She was full of energy and enthusiasm as it was her last show in Toronto.

Adele shared tidbits on her pregnancy, heartbreaks, vocal surgery, and more that led to this tour being delayed for five years. This tour has been in the planning for five years and had finally happened, which was well worth the wait. The set list was a wonderful combination of fan favorites, new album materials and meaningful songs. There weren’t any wardrobe changes as it wasn’t necessary either, it was a full two hour of unforgettable memories. Even though Adele stated she would much rather be at home ordering Chinese take out with her girlfriends and watching Sex and the City instead of touring, she loves seeing us have the time of our life.

During a portion of the show where Adele was chatting with the audience, she asked who’s Christmas present this was, since we had all bought tickets during Christmas time of last year. She apologized for being so late as the present and hope we’re enjoying it as much as we had expected. She pulled a 14 year old girl and her family on stage as it was her birthday and took an “Adele-fie” together as a family photo. In her own words, Adele wanted to make her birthday special as her own weren’t, haha.

Halfway throughout the show, Adele walks down from the main stage through the fans and the crowd towards the second stage (middle of the floor area). To my luck, I ended up walking towards the second stage by the time Adele had arrived as well and nabbed a first row spot. I was standing a few feet away from my queen who was wrapping up Sweetest Devotion. I couldn’t believe how close I was, she was “almost” within arms reach but not quite.

When god stares into your soul.

From far away, the audience was able to view Adele through a gauze enclosed diamond stage which was very inventive and beautiful. From my view, I was seeing Adele through the gauze, which was still amazing. The gauze was a bit in the way for pics as I was at the tip of the diamond and she was staring right at me for majority of the time. Before she went onto Chasing Pavements, Adele went around the diamond and posed for selfies at all four corners. Unfortunately due to the lighting, it didn’t turn out well… I had tried!

I swear to god that’s Adele behind me. The lighting was horrid turnout for the selfie even though I was RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER 😦 I can’t believe I just witnessed probably the best concert I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to TONS. – Adele was hilarious af. She literally made the show funny and sad at the same time. There were moments I was so related and belted my heart out while other times I popped along and had the best time of my life. Her talent is speechless and never fails to blow me away. I’ve waited so many years to finally be in the presence of god, and it gave me CHILLS. Slay my life. – Check out my Instagram story for some of the moments of tonight’s show, adele’s fourth and last toronto show! LOTS of videos will be posted to @neverfallaprt shortly. I was one feet away from her for the few songs and had never more alive. 😭🙌

She sang a few more songs on the second stage until Set Fire to the Rain. That’s when you it went to another level. Rain started falling from the ceiling around Adele and it looked simply breathtaking. The rain did have a funky smell with it, as being so close you could smell it and also feel it being splashed onto you. It was too magical of an experience for words when Adele is singing in front of you. I belted my heart out so much and had the time of my life. I can’t recall a time when I had as much fun at a concert than this, it’s been a long while. This will hands down be the best concert I’ve attended this year. (Attended Rihanna’s Anti World Tour and Demi/Nick Future Now Tour)

While Adele was on the diamond stage, she asked a couple up as the guy had a sign and wanted to propose to his girlfriend. It was way too cute and sweet! The guy was extremely nervous and shook while Adele helped hold his sign up as he proposed. As we couldn’t see from afar, but Adele noted it was a Tiffany ring 😉

As she was finishing up Set Fire to the Rain, security got the exit ready and rolled out a black box shortly. For those who don’t know, Adele was hidden inside that black box and rolled back to the front of the stage. I didn’t realize this was “the end” of the show, because I knew there was still two more songs to go. But for everyone else, this would have been a perfect ending (before encore) as she absolutely killed it. It was a fantastic and powerful performance.

While I ran back to my seat and enjoyed all of it, Adele came back out shortly. That was an extremely quick encore (didn’t seem like the show even ended!). I lived for when she finished When We were Young and started with Rolling in the Deep. That was everything. She nailed every note of the song and the part where 18,000 confetti started falling from the ceiling, it was absolutely beautiful.  The sight was picture perfect. Words cannot express how sad I was the show was over but it was so magical that I was speechless. It was raining Adele handwritten notes with lyrics from her hit songs. I started running around picking up as many confetti pieces as I could as I wanted to collect all the different lyrics possible. I started losing count as everyone was exiting the arena while I kept scavenger hunting for more. My favourite confetti was definitely Adele’s signature and “Hello”.

All in all, I’m so glad I attended the show even in my half sick stage. It was a concert of a lifetime, one of the bests. The professionalism and the elegance of the show was on point. Adele’s voice was pure angelic, pure soul. She incorporated interactiveness within a large arena and had an amazing balance of sadness and comedic moments creating a mix of chaotic feelings. I felt so lost and so sad when Rolling in the Deep had finished, it was like waking up from a dream or your bubble bursting. Thank you Adele, thank you for this night of a lifetime and for bringing so much joy, happiness with saddness in two hours of time. It’s time to recover from some post Adele concert depression.

Note: If you have the chance, you have to see Adele live at least once in your life. It will be an unforgettable experience and one you won’t regret. I do not advise paying the scalper prices on ebay I saw, which was $500/ticket for the BALCONY! That was insane, but I do see where they were coming from since it was a sold out and hyped up show. I’ve never seen the ACC jam packed as I did that night. It was the first time, every seat was filled with a person and filled the literal meaning of sold out.
